On Tuesday of this week Hollywood’s “most attractive” couple announced their impending divorce.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie also expressed an understandable desire to shield their children from media intrusion into their young lives.
The couple, commonly referred to as “Brangelina” had only recently married in 2014, after 12 years of cohabitation. They also famously used their own willingness to marry as a prop of manipulation during the debate about redefining marriage in the run up to the Supreme Court taking up the subject.
All the while making the excuse that they didn’t wish their children to view marriage as a tool of discrimination.
Rumors swirled when the couple first got together that Pitt had been unfaithful to Jennifer Aniston, and completely unsurprising rumors now persist that Pitt has taken up with another actress in similar fashion.
Pitt and Jolie have proven that beauty is fleeting, attraction momentary, and that marriage is much more than merely a social contract based on emotion.
Their children will indeed experience discouragement, intrusion and turmoil as the fall out descends around them. The only family they have known will no longer exist.
And they will not be able to blame the media, their fans, nor the courts for what ensues.
